What causes cervical myelopathy?
Cervical myelopathy is the result of injury to or compression of the spinal cord in the neck. There can be many causes of cervical myelopathy which include:
- Arthritis
- Congenital narrowing
- Herniated disc
- Tumor
- Traumatic injury
Symptoms of cervical myelopathy neck pain, numbness or tingling in the arm, hands or legs. In addition, people often notice difficulty with balance, coordination, clumsiness or difficulty holding objects.
How is cervical myelopathy diagnosed?

After the physical portion of the exam, Dr. Ajiboye may recommend further testing to confirm his suspected diagnosis. He may order X-rays, MRI or CT scans to detect structural problems.

Depending on the severity of your symptoms, you may begin typical conservative treatment for your symptoms such as physical therapy, over-the-counter pain relievers, hot/cold therapy, and rest.
